Hawks head into NSL play on a roll

The Liberty Hawks football team has been in this situation before — going undefeated in pre-league and then facing the daunting task of North Sequoia League play.

While the defending Div. V Valley Champion Hawks have feasted on intra-division opponents in Corcoran and Caruthers, they have also defeated Div. VI runner-up Farmersville, Div. III Madera South and Div. IV Fowler. Now the Hawks will go in the decidedly Div. IV NSL where they have only won one league championship.

The Hawks head into the first week of NSL play tonight against a rebuilding Yosemite-Oakhurst squad at Liberty.

“We always hope to be undefeated at this time of the season,” Nolte said. “Our kids are responding well to that battle cry of going 1-0 each week of not looking behind or ahead.” ...
