Hawks grab 3-1 victory

Although the Liberty Hawk softball team pulled out a 3-1 victory over the Riverdale Cowgirls, coach Bob Barber wasn’t impressed.

“I was a little frustrated with our offense,” he said. “We were a little out of sync. I told the girls that I would judge them with their attitude, effort and energy. Those are what they can control. We want those to be off the charts, but we were just 5 on effort and energy. We just weren’t aggressive. I hope this is a wake-up call for us.”

The Hawks banged out seven hits Tuesday, but left 10 runners on base, including six in scoring position. They also struck out five times.

The Hawks’ pitching staff kept them in the game. Starting pitcher Katie Pia tossed the first five innings for the win. She struck out seven and allowed three hits. Hannah Shevenell tossed the final two innings for the save with four strikeouts and one hit...
