CLOVIS — Despite one-run losses to two of the top teams in the Central Section, the Liberty Hawks softball team closed out the Clovis Easter Classic with a victory over the Clovis North Broncos.

The Hawks suffered a 5-4 loss to the back-to-back defending Valley Champions, Central-Fresno Grizzlies on Monday and a 6-5 extra inning loss to eventual tournament semifinalist, Hanford West, on Saturday.

Liberty rebounded, on the back of a Renee Ortega grand slam to pick up an 8-0 victory over Clovis North.

“This gives us confidence for the rest of the season,” head coach Leslie Wood said. I think it shows that if we show up to play and ready to go, we can play with anybody. The good competition helped us. Playing the Div. I, II and III schools gives us momentum for the rest of league.” ...
