FRESNO — It was a costly fourth inning that did in the Liberty Hawks baseball team in the opener of the Central Baseball Classic.

Facing a team from the Division I Tri-River Athletic Conference, the Hawks allowed all four of Central’s runs in the bottom of the fourth inning Tuesday in a 4-3 loss at Central High.

The Hawks had a 3-0 lead before the wheels fell off in the bottom of the fourth as Liberty (0-2) allowed three hits and one walk, hit a batter and committed two errors in the four-run inning.

“Today we just fell a little short,” Liberty manager Martin Carvalho said. “It was one inning. We had a couple of errors and if we clean that up, it’s a 3-0 ballgame. That happens, it’s baseball.” ...
