MADERA RANCHOS — Just call it an off-night for the normally high-scoring Liberty-Madera Ranchos girls soccer team.

The Hawks, who average five goals a game, only found the back of the net once Thursday night in a 2-1 home loss to San Joaquin Memorial-Fresno.

While Memorial competes in the tough County/Metro Athletic Conference, which includes defending Division I Central Section champion Bullard-Fresno, it looked as if the Division IV Hawks had the firepower — led by Jordan Moineau (17 goals), Bridgitte Burnell (17) and Randi Wallace (11) — to keep up with the Division II Panthers.

“Memorial is always tough but I knew they had been struggling this season,” Liberty head coach Ed Benavente said. “From the very beginning, it seemed like we weren’t mentally in this game.” ...
