CLOVIS — The Div. IV Liberty Hawks softball team already made waves at the Clovis Easter Softball Classic with wins over Madera, Hanford and Cesar Chavez and a near-miss loss to Div. I Frontier.

However, needing a win to advance to the Consolation Championships, the Hawks allowed five runs in the first inning and the Div. I and Central Section traditional power Clovis Cougars ran away with a 10-0 victory Tuesday at the Buchanan Softball Complex.

Liberty pitcher Hannah Shevenell allowed five runs, two earned, on three hits in four innings and Cassidy Santa Cruz allowed five runs on six hits in two innings of work.

Danni Devine had two hits to lead the Hawks’ five-hit attack, as Liberty was shutout for the first time in 12 games...
