Hawks drop the ball on Senior Night

A first half marked by mistakes and missed opportunities would set the tone for the Liberty Hawks boys soccer team as it lost its Senior Night game, falling to the Yosemite High Badgers 5-3.

Most of Tuesday’s game was spent on Liberty’s side of the field as Yosemite continually pressed an aggressive offense, pulling to a 4-0 lead midway through the second half on the second goal from forward Zack Voltner.

Liberty (6-12-6, 2-6-1 NSL) would finally find momentum in the second half, scoring two goals within five minutes of each other to cut the Badgers’ (4-8-4, 4-3-2 NSL) lead to 4-2, but those scores and a penalty kick goal in the game’s final two minutes would prove to be too little too late.

“You can’t give up five goals and win a soccer game,” Liberty head coach Darryl Ratzlaff said. “It’s just not a good way to have our seniors go out at home.”...
