OAKHURST — With a key showdown on the horizon, the Liberty Hawks football team easily dispatched undermanned Yosemite-Oakhurst Badgers in the North Sequoia League opener.
The Hawks, ranked No. 1 in Division V, scored 41 first half points and cruised to a 48-0 victory Friday night. Liberty (6-0, 1-0) now prepares for a divisional and league match-up with Sierra-Tollhouse, who comes into the game with a 5-1 record and is ranked No. 3 in Division V.
“I didn’t expect it to be that way that early,” head coach Mike Nolte said after the Hawks scored on their first five possessions. “We were more physical than they were and we were better up front. I’m proud of the guys.”
