Shevenell re-sets school strikeout record
After two straight losses in the North Sequoia League, the Liberty Hawks went back to the drawing board and came away with a 4-1 victory Thursday over the Chowchilla Redskins in the season finale.
The Hawks lost consecutive 2-1 games to Washington Union-Easton and Kerman and, with the win, will likely tie for the NSL championship with Washington Union.
A solo home run by Shelby Johnson and a go-ahead RBI double by Bailey Graham paced the offense while Hannah Shevenell silenced the Chowchilla bats with a school-record 16 strikeouts.
“We talked for two and a half hours yesterday at practice,” coach Bob Barber said. “The chemistry was not where it needed to be. We opened up a lot of can of worms. Today, I felt the positive energy that I haven’t seen in three weeks. Our bats looked more relaxed.” ...
