Hawks change focus to Blue Raiders

After triumphant victories over rivals Fowler and Corcoran by a combined 75-20, the Liberty Hawks football team will try to go 1-0 for the fifth straight week tonight in Caruthers against the Blue Raiders.

Last year the Hawks defeated the Blue Raiders at Liberty, 37-0. The last time Liberty ventured to Caruthers, the Hawks came away with a 19-0 victory in the 2008 Div. V semifinals.

Head coach Mike Nolte is quick to point out that Caruthers can beat his Hawks and that thought is seconded by last year’s junior varsity players on the varsity squad, who were stunned by Caruthers last season.

“The are capable of beating us,” Nolte said. “That has to be communicated well to the kids. They have to believe any given week you can be beaten. We have a lot of kids up from JV that were beaten by Caruthers. They know they are the real deal.” ...
