After playing each other for four years before the season started in scrimmages, the Liberty Hawk and the Madera South Stallion football teams will face each other when it counts.

For the first time, Liberty will play Madera South during the season Friday night in Memorial Stadium.

“I think (Madera South head football coach) Scott (Donegan) has been the driving force behind scheduling this game,” Liberty head coach Mike Nolte said. “He thinks it would be a great idea for all the Madera County schools to play each other on a rotational scale.

“It’s an important game for us. I don’t know if it’s any more important than any other game in our schedule, though. They are a bigger school and that’s the challenge.” ...
