Former Madera players face off

Former Madera Coyote girls volleyball player Kat Grow and former Madera South girls volleyball player Valeria Martinez and their teams met up in the regular season finale Saturday.

Grow and the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs won the match in four sets, including clawing their way back from a 10-point deficit in the fourth set. Grow, a senior playing in her last match for UCSC, missed almost a month with a sprained ankle and came back with a team-high 11 kills, 5 digs and 3 aces.

“It was a ride,” Grow said after the match. “That last game was like the whole season has been.”

Grow finished the season with 158 kills despite missing half of the matches with the injury. She led the team with 3.36 kills per set and also had 20 service aces to go with 109 digs...
