For an accomplished athlete like Madera’s Benny Madrigal, it doesn’t take much to get him motivated to go for a run.
Whether it be for recreational or competitive purposes, running has always been an important and a regular part of Madrigal’s life.
But when the 2005 Madera High graduate and former cross country star learned he had Type 1 diabetes — where according to American Diabetes Association, the body doesn’t produce insulin (a hormone that is needed to convert sugar, starches and other food into energy needed for daily life) — Madrigal feared that his normal way of life could drastically change in a heartbeat.
What he didn’t know at time was how it would turn out to be an opportunistic outlet to help others in dealing with the same situation...
