Since Zoila Gurgel (Frausto) graduated from Madera High School in 2002, she has made a name for herself in the mixed martial arts community.
She won the first Bellator Fighting Championship’s 115-pound competition and was ranked number one in two separate weight classes within 18 months of turning professional.
Among her laurels, Gurgel won awards for the Female Flyweight of the Year, Upset of the Year, Headline of the Year and Knockout of the Year in 2010.
After missing most of last year rehabbing a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), Gurgel won her comeback fight in October in Dayton, Ohio.
