First-timer Blanton wins big at Madera Speedway

In a brand-new car and in his first race at the LoanMart Madera Speedway, Mark Blanton won arguably the most exciting event Saturday night during a back-and-forth Open Hobby Stocks battle that delighted hometown crowds.

Blanton faced off against top qualifier and points leader Erick Ray as well as the strong driving of Sheldon Cooper for 50 hard-fought laps with several lead changes and multiple red flags.

Starting on the pole, Ray flew out in front of the pack but was called back after the 41 car of Howard Holden and 21 of Matt Manolis made hard contact, sending Holden crashing into the back-end wall.

After both cars were towed off, the race restarted and Ray worked his way back to the top before Chuck Aguirre spun out in lap 19 and officials called it at the event’s halfway point…
