First golfer to be inducted into HOF

Although he was officially inducted into the Madera Athletic Hall of Fame with the third class two years ago, former Madera Coyote golfer Roger Lyons will be unofficially inducted today with the fourth class.

Lyons was unable to make the ceremonies two years ago. He will still be recognized with the third class, but will be introduced by fellow golf pro Gerry Nikkel tonight at the Madera Municipal Golf course.

The fourth class of inductees includes brothers Ace and Frank Rodriguez, twins Alex and Allen Smith, Vince Bowen, Kim Young, Bill Musick and the 1996 baseball team.

“I feel fortunate because I’ve been born and raised in Madera and people have respected me as a good golfer and an employee at Madera Muni," Lyons said. "It's nice to be acknowledged. I’ve gotten it my whole life. People have been so nice to me in my career as a golfer.” ...
