Local MMA fighter looks to build on career and program

For Madera’s Anthony “The Piranha” Perales, nothing was more precious than being given a second chance.

Perales — a 25-year-old mixed martial arts fighter and instructor — wants to show, not only himself but also his community, that when a rare opportunity for a second chance comes around, to take full advantage of it rather than squander it all away.

With another shot to better his life, Perales didn’t waste the favor. He immediately turned himself into an ambitious fighter with the motivation to help troubled youth that are looking for an outlet.

“It’s never easy but the people of Madera support me and I support this town,” Perales said. “When I’m in the cage, I fight with 50,000 people behind me. That’s how I fight. I do everything that I possibly can do so that these kids can see that there’s something out there worth more.”...
