Fernandes gets hot in Coyotes win

In basketball lore, when a shooter gets hot, you keep feeding the shooter until they stop scoring.

Madera’s sophomore guard Bria Fernandes got hot and didn’t cool off until the end of the game. Fernandes sank eight 3-pointers and scored 27 points in a 51-36 victory Thursday in the Selma Lions Shootout against Sierra-Tollhouse.

Fernandes was 8-of-12 from behind the 3-point line and led the Coyotes despite no other player scoring more than 6 points. Fernandes scored 17 straight Madera points at one point.

“She stepped to the line and made a free throw, she played defense well and filled the bucket,” head coach Jason Smith said. “It was a great team win.”...
