Tonight, when Tyler Bates suits up for the final time as a Madera Coyote in the 58th annual City/County All-Star football game at Lamonica Stadium, it will signal the end of an era in Coyote sports.

Tyler is the last of a long line of athletes in the Bates family, starting off with his father, Jim, who was a City/County All-Star for Dos Palos. Tyler’s brother Nick started at safety in 2005.

Bates was one of the leading tacklers for the Coyotes and one of the fiercest hitters in the County/Metro Athletic Conference. The three-year starter had 47 tackles, three forced fumbles and three interceptions. He also rushed for 247 yards, was a first team AllCMAC selection and a member of the All-Madera Tribune team.

He will be joined by teammates Eric Mendoza and Noe Lopez...
