Drivers look back on season at awards banquet

After nearly eight months of intense and entertaining racing, drivers shifted gears and enjoyed a social evening with their respected fellow competitors along with friends and family.

Those involved in making this past racing season a memorable one attended the LoanMart Madera Speedway’s end-of-season awards banquet, which also doubled as a charity auction Friday night in Hatfield Hall in the Madera Fairgrounds.

On a night full of driver’s reminiscing about the year, heartwarming speeches from worthy award recipients and crew members poking fun at season gaffes, the evening truly turned inspirational as charity money was raised during an entertaining auction that saw drivers and other guests try to cleverly outdo each other while supporting a good cause.

In an auction that featured a very detailed Madera Speedway blanket that was hand-crocheted by Danielle Benjamin over a 57-day span along with other neat items, more than $2,000 was raised in all for the Children’s Hospital Central California...
