Liberty three-sport athlete Danni Devine was just happy to be in the same room with 12 other finalists Monday at the Central Section Student/Athlete of the Year dinner in Porterville.

By the time they got to introduce the the Student/Athlete of the Year award, Devine noticed she was the last female left.

Her name was announced as the Central Section Student/Athlete of the Year and she earned a $1,000 scholarship. She is the first Liberty student to receive the Student/ Athlete of the Year award and also the first finalist.

“The whole time, we’re sitting in the room with our family,” Devine said. “They ask us to introduce ourselves and everyone is saying they’re going somewhere for college for sports and going to Clovis schools. They were all really good and one was No. 1 in her class out of 700 students. I thought if I got the least award, I would have been happy with that.” ...
