“Offense wins games, but defense wins championships.”

If the saying holds true, the Madera Coyote girls water polo team used it to get a Div. II quarterfinal playoff victory Wednesday at the McAlister Aquatic Complex.

The Coyotes got plenty of offense from Hannah Ryan, who outscored the Hanford West Huskies 10-9, but got plenty of help from the other players, especially on defense.

“This is one of those games where everybody has to be on the same page to keep the options open and make sure they know where the ball is going,” Ryan said. “In the second half, everything started to fall into place.” ...
