After four years of missing nights out with friends to play in travel softball tournaments or to study, the benefits have started to pay off for Madera Coyote two-sport athlete Mariah Davis.
Davis, who has earned three varsity letters in volleyball, including a Valley Championship ring in 2011, and four varsity letters in softball, is Madera High School’s representative to the Junior League of Fresno Senior Girls Athlete of the Year and will be honored at a banquet Monday.
“I’ve been working to get Athlete of the Year, but now I see it’s more than keeping good grades,” Davis said. “Now I’m seeing all of my hard work paying off. Getting good grades and staying in on weekends. I didn’t know they had all of this, but now I see all the stuff I did is adding up to it.”
Davis will also be honored at a banquet May 5 in Visalia as the County/Metro Athletic Conference’s female representative to the CIF Central Section Senior Scholar/Athlete of the Year…
