Need the break: With a touchdown on their first drive of the second half, the Liberty Hawks reclaimed a lead they wouldn’t relinquish in Friday’s 34-17 victory over the Lindsay Cardinals in the Div. V semifinal game. The Hawks have scored on the first drive of the second half in nine of 12 games this season.

Closing time: In 10 of 12 games, the Hawks have outscored their opponent in the second half. In eight of those games, Liberty held their opponents scoreless. The Hawks have scored 118 points in the third quarter and 63 points in the fourth quarter. They added to that total Friday with 7 in the third and 13 in the fourth. Liberty has outscored its opponents 181-40 in the second half.

Down, but not out: For the third time this season, a Liberty opponent went into the halftime break with a lead. The Hawks haven’t trailed too much this season and they have come back in two of those games for victories (Lindsay and Chowchilla).

Getting hot: After a streak of three straight possessions that resulted in punts, the Hawks closed out the game with touchdowns on two of their five second half possessions. One of those possessions resulted in a blocked field goal, another turned the ball over on downs and the third ended the game...
