Madera Coyotes

Double threat: Sophomore Alec Gamboa racked up 100 yards rushing and 116 yards receiving for the Coyotes in a 49-8 playoff victory over the Fresno High Warriors on Friday, Madera’s first playoff win in over six years. Gamboa would add two scores on the ground and rested for most of the second half.

It’s raining picks: The Coyotes picked off Warrior passes five times during the contest. Three were stolen from starting quarterback Anthony Derr, one from running back Jacob Moffat on a toss pass, and one from Saul Ortiz, who replaced Derr after an injury. Three interceptions fell into the hands of Jo Jo Contreras, one to Michael Say, and one to JV call-up Timothy Lemmons...

LIberty Hawks

Familiar opponent: The Liberty Hawks will host Immanuel on Friday in the quarterfinals, but it’s not like the Hawks don’t know about the Eagles. The Hawks defeated Immanuel last season, 34-7 when Liberty had three 100+ yard rushers. Sam McHatton rushed for 210 yards, Brandon Hutchings went for 123 and A.J. Leon had 117. All three may play Friday. Hutchings has missed the last month with a hamstring injury.

History: In four previous meetings with the Eagles, the Hawks have been dominant. They have outscored Immanuel 135-35 over the four years for an average victory of 33.8-8.8...
