When the games get close at the end, most coaches turn to their seniors to get the job done. That’s exactly what Madera Coyote girls basketball coach Jason Smith did at the end of his game against the San Joaquin Memorial-Fresno Panthers in the County/Metro Athletic Conference opener.

Despite shooting just 25 percent (15-of-61) from the field in the game and trailing by nine with four minutes left to go in the game, the Coyotes still had a chance in Tuesday’s game in Joe Flores Gym.

Senior point guard Breanna Torres missed a 3-pointer with 16.1 seconds left in the game, trailing 38-37.
