The Madera Coyote girls basketball team found itself trailing the section's No. 9 ranked Bullard-Fresno Knights 47-40 with just over three minutes to play Wednesday night at Joe Flores Gym. But a 23-point fourth quarter offensive explosion led by Breanna Torres pulled out a 56-52 win for the Coyotes.
“This is the biggest win we have had here in my four years and the biggest for our seniors,” said Madera head coach Jason Smith whose teams were a combined 31- 48 and 4-26 in league play the previous three seasons. “I am so proud of our seniors and we preached ever since last season ended that we wanted to work hard to be able to play our best basketball in January and February.”
Madera has now turned the corner and finds itself in a three-way tie for first place in the County/Metro Athletic Conference with EdisonFresno and Bullard at 4-1.
