Stallions place 4th at Central Valley Challenge tourney
In the inaugural Central Valley Challenge Tournament hosted by the Madera South boys volleyball team, both the Madera Coyotes and Stallions made their mark in the hometown invitational.
The Coyotes ended the two-day 12-team tourney with a 25-17, 25-17 victory over Hoover-Fresno to claim the Silver Division Championship while the Stallions suffered a loss to Galileo of the San Francisco Section in the 3rd place match Saturday at Madera South High.
“This is our first varsity tournament we’ve hosted and we had a pretty decent turnout,” Stallion head coach Steve Guglielmana said. “We’ve been running tournaments for a number of years from middle school, JV and freshman, so we’re used to it. I think everybody had a good time and experience, so we hope to grow it. We have a lot more varsity teams from out of the area that are very interested in coming next year which is great.”
It was the Clovis North Broncos — the only Tri-River Athletic Conference participant — that won the tournament as they beat Edison-Fresno in the championship match.
