The Madera Coyote varsity girls cross country team went to Modesto and came away with a large school championship.

Out of 30 teams in the meet, the Coyotes finished first in the large school division with a total score of 22 (15 is a perfect score) Saturday at the Sierra Invitational at the Tuolumne River Regional Park.

Jasmine Gonzales led the Coyotes with a second-place finish in Tuolumne park with a time of 21:19. Fourteen seconds later, teammate Nicole Nava finished second on the team in fourth place.

Karina Gil placed eighth overall and third on the team. Seventeen seconds later, Laura Morales finished ninth and fourth on the team. Finishing the team scoring was Alexis Miguel in 16th place. Essence Shanklin was 22nd, and Celeste Roberts finished in 27th place...
