Coyotes surge past Panthers

FRESNO — With the Madera girls soccer team’s season at a crossroads, its offense couldn’t have picked a better time to show up.

The Coyotes, who were coming off a shutout loss to crosstown rival Madera South, trailed 1-0 in their County/Metro Athletic Conference opener Wednesday before scoring three unanswered goals in a 3-1 win at San-Joaquin Memorial-Fresno.

Destenie McMillon, Andrea Hernandez and Jasmine Cardenas each scored for the Coyotes while Kimberly Gaona recorded an assist.

For Madera head coach Eli Luiba, it was the perfect way to start CMAC play against a tough opponent that beat the Coyotes 3-0 in last year’s league opener. Both teams tied for second place in the CMAC last season...
