FRESNO— After a hard-fought and emotional road win, the Madera boys soccer team had a major letdown against a lesser opponent in its latest match.
Two days after handing first-place Bullard-Fresno a 2-1 loss, the Coyotes (11-5-6) went to San-Joaquin Memorial-Fresno High and were upset Thursday in a 3-2 loss to the Panthers (4-13-2).
The Coyotes, who beat the Panthers 5-2 on Jan. 10 in the opening game of County/Metro Athletic Conference play, came into the contest tied for first place with Bullard, Sunnyside-Fresno and Sanger but were dealt a major hit to their title chances.
“After having one of the biggest wins in the program, to turn around and lose to a team that is the bottom of the league is just beyond stunning,” Madera head coach Chris Baca said. “The boys did leave a lot of energy out there at Bullard and I was afraid because we only had one day in between games.” ...
