Coyotes start out day strong, end with thud

The Madera Coyote softball team opened its season with a dominating 6-2 victory over the Dinuba Emperors in the Buchanan Preseason Tournament.

Unfortunately, that was the high point of the night for the Coyotes. Madera tied Hanford West 1-1 and lost to the Clovis North Broncos 2-1 Wednesday to end the night.

With the loss to Clovis North, the Coyotes ended third in their pool and will play the Liberty Hawks at 9 a.m. Saturday.

“We have a learning curve,” head coach Judy Shaubach said. “We take two steps forward, but take one step back. Our base running was not our strength tonight. We have to be more intelligent. We’re just young. We need to go with the outside pitch"...
