The Madera baseball team couldn’t have asked for a better way to enter County/Metro Athletic Conference play after outscoring its last five opponents a combined 49-5.
On a five-game winning streak, the defending Div. II section champion Coyotes (9-3) finished the Central Baseball Classic on Tuesday with a 14-2 rout over Golden Valley-Merced on Mel Parker Field after posting home wins against Liberty (13-0) and Buhach Colony-Atwater (5-2) over the weekend.
To start CMAC competition, Madera travels to Fresno on Friday and returns to the site of last season’s 6-0 triumph over the San Joaquin Memorial Panthers in the Valley Championship game. The Coyotes play at 3:30 p.m. against the Panthers.
“I feel good about our team and this is probably the best we could go into CMAC,” Madera head coach Andy Underwood said. “We’re playing great defense, throwing strikes and hitting well, so we have all three facets of the game going right now. But now that we’re beginning league, we’re not going to face any easy teams. All six teams, including ours, are tough and it’s going to come down to which team executes best.” ...
