Coyotes return from bye week as Pirates sail into town

The Madera Coyotes football team has had a week off since losing to the Dinuba Emperors 35-13 in its first game of the year, and the extra rest is expected to go a long way against the Reedley Pirates at home tonight as more players return to the field from injuries sustained before the season began.

Head coach Bonner Cunnings will lead a Coyotes squad with juniors in several key skill positions, who as starters while sophomores were part of a Madera team that sank the Pirates 77-7 last year.

Power back Jesus Jimenez, wing back Alec Gamboa, and speedy back Taylor Brunolli —who did not play against Dinuba but will be back on the field — all had at least one touchdown rushing last season against the Pirates and combined for more than 290 yards on the ground.

The three, along with quick outside senior threats Paul Brown and Tashawn Ford — both not members of the team last year — will bring a solid combination of speed and power to the field, Cunnings said...
