After having one of its worst shooting nights, the Madera Coyote girls basketball team rebounded for a County/Metro Athletic Conference victory over the Sanger Apaches in Joe Flores Gym.
The Coyotes used a 33-point second half to turn a one-point halftime lead into a 49-33 victory Friday night.
“We played the best defensive game we have played all year,” head coach Jason Smith said. “We talked about ‘this is our house.’ Nobody comes into the pit and gets out. Our defense was superb tonight. We took three or four charges and drew numerous offensive fouls. We were aggressive and weren’t fouling.”
“It was a good team win,” Smith said. “We were without three players who play big minutes. We talked about it all along that we are a fist. Everybody has to be ready to do their part and we had some girls come in that usually don’t get big minutes and did a great job.” ...
