Coyotes qualify for Div. III golf

A month ago, the Madera Coyote girls golf team didn’t think it could qualify for anything.

Head coach Colleen Dover found herself without a full team, thus forfeiting all of their dual matches. Dover had just three players come out for the team this season and lost some girls from last season.

The team pressed on, picked up a couple of girls late in the season and combined to shoot a 555 Monday at the County/Metro Athletic Conference Championships and qualify for the Div. III finals on Monday at Valley Oaks Golf Course in Visalia.

“It’s pretty good, especially since we didn’t have a team at the beginning of the season,” Dover said. “We had a volleyball player come out and got another girl that wasn’t playing. For having two girls that haven’t played 18 holes before it is pretty good.” ...
