It was a very spirited home opener for the Madera girls volleyball team when it faced Central-Fresno of the Tri-River Athletic Conference.

With an energetic crowd rooting them on, the Coyotes battled back from a 2-1 deficit to force a fifth set and pulled out a 3-2 victory over the Grizzlies on Thursday night in Joe Flores Gym.

“Our crowd is always awesome and we love them,” Coyote head coach Robyn Royston said. “They’re like a seventh player for us all the time. Our players had been pumped all week for this game and came out and did a great job.”

Madera (11-4) previously played in two out-of-town tournaments including the Clovis Volleyball Challenge and the Central California Classic before hosting fellow Div. I opponent Central (10-6)...
