While the power was off in many Fresno homes due to recent storms, Madera’s Lance Carrell harnessed all of his power and blasted a three-run home run in the top of the fifth as part of an eight-run explosion lifting the Coyotes to a 13-1 lambasting of the San Joaquin Memorial-Fresno Panthers.
The offensive fireworks were not quite over though as Madera (10-8, 3-2) put four more runs across in the seventh against Memorial (4-14, 1-4) on Monday for its second highest scoring output of the season.
The Coyotes, now ranked No. 3 in Division II, banged out 10 hits led by Carrell, who was 2-for-4, and Jo Jo Contreras, who also went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a pair of runs scored.
“We have been really focusing on situational hitting and our approach at the plate," said Madera head coach Andy Underwood. “I have been talking more to the hitters on deck and reminding them what they need to do on a given at bat.” ...
