FRESNO — Through the first five innings of the Central Baseball Classic championship game betweenMadera and Central-Fresno, neither team could gain any ground as the score remained locked at 1-1.
It was a three-run inning in the bottom of the sixth that helped propel the host-team Grizzlies (8-1) to a 4-2 win over the Coyotes (6-2) in the title game Saturday on Tom Goodwin Field at Central High.
“We played well, it’s just disappointing that we came up a little short in this game,” Coyote head coach Andy Underwood said. “Looking back on it now — with our limited amount of pitching — if you told me at the beginning of the tournament that we would go 6-2 and play in the championship, I might have been a little skeptical.”
