After falling behind 2-0 in the third inning, the Madera Coyote softball team closed out the game with 11 straight runs for a Division I first round victory.
The No. 7 seeded Coyotes took advantage of six Clovis East errors Wednesday that led to seven unearned runs. In addition, the Coyotes pounded out 12 hits, including three from Rita Solis and two from Destenie McMillon and Mariah Davis.
Madera was able to overcome three errors of its own that led to two unearned runs. Carissa McMillon tossed a four-hitter and retired 12 straight batters at one point. She struck out seven and walked two.
“You cannot have the mental lapses we had at this time of year,” head coach Judy Shaubach said. “We answered back and that’s a mark of a championship team.” ...
