Coyotes overcome slow start

The Madera Coyotes girls volleyball team came out a little sluggish and dropped the first set of its County/Metro Athletic Conference match to Bullard-Fresno.

The Coyotes came back to win the second set and took control of the match in the third set for a 3-1 victory Thursday night in Joe Flores Gym to remain undefeated and in first place in the CMAC with Tuesday’s match at Madera South closing out the first half.

“This is the battle we have been fighting all year,” head coach Robyn Royston said. “They just don’t come out ready to go. We already beat Bullard and they think it’s no problem. They don’t come out intense and fierce and get beat. Bullard made a ton of mistakes in that first set, but we couldn’t put a ball away.”

The Knights defeated the Coyotes 25-21 in the first set. The Coyotes then won the next three sets by a combined 75-48 score for the win...
