Coyotes open league with win over Panthers

Behind the left arm of ace Scotty Roberts, the Madera Coyote baseball team opened the County/Metro Athletic Conference with a commanding 7-1 victory Friday at Mel Parker Field over the San Joaquin Memorial-Fresno Panthers.

Roberts tossed a complete game, four-hitter with six strikeouts and one walk to pick up the victory and give the Coyotes a CMAC victory.

“He struggled in the first three innings getting the ball down,” head coach Andy Underwood said. “Control for him is a lot different than someone else. I’m a little pickier with Scotty. His ball was up and the zone was low. We had a conversation after third inning and looked better after that.”

The Coyotes scored in four of the six innings and scored in a variety of ways -- groundout, sacrifice fly, double, balk, single and a two-run home run. Madera banged out eight hits in the game against San Joaquin Memorial’s ace Justin Heskett. He allowed five runs on six hits over four innings...
