After three days of terse emails and phone calls between two high schools’ athletic directors, the waves settled Tuesday morning between Madera and Bullard High Schools and the Coyotes boys swimming team was officially declared the outright County/Metro Athletic Conference champion.

It is the Coyotes’ second CMAC championship in three years, with a win in 2011 and a second-place finish behind Sanger last year.

The controversy between Madera and Bullard-Fresno arose after Saturday’s CMAC championship meet at Bullard High School, when it was originally thought that the Knights had beaten Madera by four points.

As a result, Bullard and Madera were declared co-champions — the Coyotes finished undefeated in league meets — and the Knights were ecstatic with the victory...
