The Madera High football team will, again, make a long road trip tonight as they travel more than 150 miles to take on the Skyline Titans of Oakland, with the Coyotes hungry for their first away victory and second win of the season.
The Coyotes (1-3) will face a Skyline (0-4) team that has been outscored by its first four opponents 159-12 and has averaged less than 175 yards of offense a game.
Despite that, Madera head coach Bonner Cunnings said the Titans had several athletic players and his team wouldn’t take anything for granted, particularly as Skyline played against schools whose schedules included national powerhouses like De La Salle, ranked 22 in the nation on Maxpreps.com.
“I can tell you Skyline has a lot of good athletes,” Cunnings said. “They can prove to be an explosive team, and when you couple that with the long road trip we’re taking, it could combine for a serious challenge for us. This isn’t a game where we want to sit back on our heels.” ...
