The Coyote baseball team continues to win despite an offense that has become a phantom of sorts — you thought you had seen hits before but now wonder if it was just an apparition.
While only collecting three hits, Madera found a way to pull out a 3-2 win over the Sunnyside-Fresno Wildcats Friday afternoon at Mel Parker Field.
The Coyotes (15-10, 8-4) were spotted two runs in the first inning as Sunnyside starter Jose Barraza walked the first four batters to force in a run. For Barraza, the strike zone was his own phantom as 18 of his first 22 pitches were balls and it looked early on like this might be a rout.
Yet in an amazing transformation, Barraza then mowed down 22 of the next 24 Coyote batters while recording 14 strikeouts...
