Coyotes hunt down Warriors in playoff win

The Madera Coyotes earned their first playoff victory in more than six years by tearing apart the Fresno Warriors, 49-8 in the first round of the Central Section Div. II football playoffs.

The Coyotes (5-6, 1-4 CMAC) dominated the Warriors (2-9, 1-4 NYL) Friday night for the second time this season by combining an unstoppable ground attack with a smothering defense, limiting the Warriors to 63 yards rushing and no scores while running for 260 yards and six touchdowns.

“Our runners did great,” Coyote quarterback Nathaniel Nelson said after the win. “Our offensive line did really good at blocking and we executed very well in the second half.”

Through the air, the game was less one-sided, with Nelson throwing for 187 yards and a score while three Warrior quarterbacks combined for 116 yards, a touchdown and five interceptions, with three falling into the hands of senior defensive back JoJo Contreras...
