With a thin bench, the Madera boys basketball team had trouble stopping the Hoover-Fresno forward combination of junior Rakim Murphy and senior Nick Peterson.

Those two combined for 31 points Friday night in the Patriots’ 54-28 win over a shorthanded Madera team at Joe Flores Gym.

The Coyotes had players sit out for team reasons while Murphy scored 17 points and Peterson followed with 14 for the Patriots.

“They had two solid guys but we gave up too many offensive rebounds which helped them out,” Coyote head coach Mike Hawkins said. “There were times when we would get stops but they would get the rebound and put it back in, plus we gave up some fast break layups.”...
