Mariah Davis sets school record for runs in 4-for-5 day
FRESNO — The Madera Coyote softball team seemed to have the game in control, but the San Joaquin Memorial-Fresno Panthers wouldn’t go away Thursday in a 9-7 County/Metro Athletic Conference victory.
The Coyotes (17-16, 5-1 CMAC) led 8-3 in the fifth, but the Panthers scored four runs in the bottom of the inning after centerfielder Rita Solis hyperextended her right elbow diving for a ball. After that, Memorial strung together three straight hits, including a double over Jackie Anzaldo’s head in center. It was Anzaldo’s first-ever time in center in four years for the Coyotes.
“We did a lot of good things,” head coach Judy Shaubach said. “It’s the little things that got us in trouble. We survived.”
