Madera Coyote volleyball outside hitter Erin Drew had her best match in her first varsity season to lead her team to a 3-1 County/Metro Athletic Conference opening victory over San Joaquin Memorial-Fresno.

Drew put down a personal-best 19 kills to go with 14 digs and 5 aces Tuesday night in Joe Flores Gym. Brielle Hefner kicked in with 11 kills, 9 blocks and 32 assists.

"A win is a win and I'll take it," head coach Robyn Keune said. "I wish we could have played to our potential, but I'm glad everyone got to play. Erin had her best game of the season."

The Coyotes (15-9, 1-0 CMAC) won the first two sets, 25-21, 25-19, but dropped the second set 25-21. They jumped out to a 20-6 lead in the fourth set and held on as the Panthers scored 11 of the match's next 16 points...
