Coyotes get wrestling walk-off

The situation doesn’t happen too often in wrestling dual meets, but it did at the Madera Coyotes’ County/Metro Athletic Conference match against the Sanger Apaches.

The Coyotes trailed as a team 29-21 with three matches left to go. In order for the Coyotes to have a chance, they needed to win all three matches.

The first two won, putting the pressure on Daniel Ruiz, at 140 pounds. With the team score tied at 29, Ruiz came from behind in the final period with takedown points awarded at the final buzzer for a 7-5 victory to give the Coyotes a 32-29 team win Wednesday in Joe Flores Gym.

“I was scared and tried to figure out a way to pull it out,” Ruiz said. “I was trying to get him tired and move around a little bit. It was really intense and I was happy I was able to get it.” ...
